Samaritan’s Purse is privileged to be part of the humanitarian effort in Ethiopia and legally registered as foreign charity to work in Ethiopia since October 08, 2018.

Job Summary

The Health and Nutrition Program Manager will lead the day-to-day operations of Samaritan’s Purse, Health and Nutrition Program in in Tigray. The Health and Nutrition Manager will manage the MMNUs activity each day. This includes traveling to mobile clinic site, set up and direct implementation of patient care.   The Health and Nutrition Manager will be responsible for ensuring that quality of patient care is maintained with cultural sensitivity to beneficiaries. This includes maintaining patient confidentiality, infection prevention standards and complying with Ministry of Health and Samaritan’s Purse protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Provide leadership to MMNU teams and PHC support serving the Northwest Zone of Tigray. This includes leading teams of health professionals and PHC support in providing quality medical care in accordance with SP and Ethiopia Government protocols, values and universal infection control standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health status.

·       Oversee the overall implementation, management, and supervision of Samaritan’s Purse (SP) Primary Healthcare Center (PHC), in delivering life-saving essential primary health care to conflict-affected populations in the Tigray region.

·       Provide oversite to PHCs in the Tigray region, ensuring that quality care is being provided to patients/beneficiaries according to up-to-date medical knowledge and the Ethiopian Government protocols, values, and universal infection control standards to improve the patients’/beneficiaries’ health status.

·       Apply clinical leadership skills in the management of the team’s daily activities.

·       Participate in Clinic activities, paying attention to the needs of the team and patients as they arise.

·       Work with staff to ensure care and communication is culturally sensitive.

·       Ensure the team has the necessary supplies and medications for clinic activities each day.

·       Ensure accurate clinical documentation and collection of epidemiological data is maintained, checking its validity and informing the M&E Manager and Health Program Manager as appropriate, about any problem or complication of the patients’ illness or medical error (s).

·       Responsible for supervising the clinical team, providing appropriate intervention when needed.

·       Support the Health Program Manager in monitoring the proper functioning of the mobile medical unit, equipment, supplies, or pharmaceuticals.

·       Ensure patient confidentiality is respected at all times.

·       Provide clinical leadership through the training and mentoring to other clinical staff in dissemination of new knowledge or protocols.

·       Other duties as assigned.

·       Attend daily morning devotions and participates in prayer support for ministry, donors and voluntaries.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE NEEDED

§  Medical doctor, MPH or relevant.

§  More than 4 years of experience in clinical Leadership.

§  Has experience as Health Coordination or Leadership, preferably in a low-resource setting.

§  Previous work experience in a humanitarian setting.

LANGUAGE

·       Amharic and English (spoken and written required)

·       Tigrigna languages strongly desired

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
