UNICEF Tigray field office is working to promote child rights, knowledge, behavior and social change with particular focus on disadvantaged communities. Through its Behavior and Social Change (SBC) component, UNICEF is supporting the Government, non-governmental organizations, and community to promote child rights and conduct positive social, and behaviour change activities at different levels across the region.

The intern will be working under the supervision of UNICEF Social & Behaviour Change Officer in close collaboration with programs section.

How can you make a difference?

While carrying out the tasks assigned to him/her, the intern will acquire relevant experience and build/enhance his/her capacity in.

  • The development, dissemination and monitoring of SBC content in UNICEF supported media content and print materials.
  • Contribute to planning, implementation and supervision of UNICEF supported campaigns and events as needed.
  • Participate in routine data collection and analysis for social behavior change including creation of tools, methods, and data base to ensure timely comprehensive and current data on SBC are available.
  • Organization of advocacy events and forums
  • Capacity enhancement activities for implementing partners (support frontline workers on skills and competencies necessary for the provision of SBC through on job coaching and mentoring).
  • Facilitation implementation of SBC activities and group sessions in internally displaced peoples sites, health facilities and other modalities (maternal health, mother support group etc.) on selected issues as appropriate.
  • Prepare human interest stories, story boards and short videos on promotion of desired behaviors and demand generation.
  • Conduct regular supervision and monitoring of SBC interventions in internally displaced peoples sites and health facilities to ensure the delivery of services are adequate and up to the standard.
  • Contribute to data collection, analysis, and reporting for the SBC section

Job requirements

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • He or she should be enrolled at a university in Ethiopia at the undergraduate or graduate level or be a recent graduate (within the past two years) in in Health Promotion/Communication, Social/Behavior Change Communication, Public Health, and relevant Social Sciences is required.
  • Candidates that were enrolled in full time university studies in Tigray for a first (bachelor’s) degree prior to 2020 and who would have graduated in 2020, 2021 or 2022 in normal circumstances, are eligible. This covers all students who were enrolled and had their schooling interrupted. Please make a note of these details in your application cover letter, if applicable
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.
