Project coordinator

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations, seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI was reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 530/2023 as biomedical research, clinical trials, Traditional and Modern Medicine research and development, Pharmaceutical Industry Research and Development  and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership-embracing research agendas with direct impact on the development and transformation of the population in Ethiopia and beyond.

The communicable and non-communicable diseases Research Directorate (CNCDRD) is one of the departments in the institute and currently has different research projects on the areas funded by international partners. One of the projects is aimed at strengthening Ethiopia’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to public health emergencies, including pandemics. The project DETECT ” has been active since 2024. Currently, the project is in the initial stage.

Therefore, the CNCDRD Directorate is looking for self-driven, motivated, innovative, and energetic project coordinator to join our team.

Responsibilities

n  Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement project plans for strengthening Ethiopia’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to public health emergencies.

n  Coordinate and oversee project activities in alignment with project goals and timelines.

n  Manage, monitor, and guide contracted consultants/partners to work on the activities and objectives listed in the work plan and ensure that their work is conducted in a timely manner and with high quality.

n  Together with the project team and research staff, monitor project activities according to the project monitoring framework and implementation plan

n  Contribute to developing TORs and for specific activities and objectives in line with the rules and regulations of organization

n  Prepare procurement plan and specifications

n  Monitor project progress, evaluate outcomes, and report on key performance indicators to project PI

n  Prepare progress, training, workshop, meetings, travel and other reports

n  Work with the project PI and project team members including finance team to monitor project funds, ensuring the funds are used for the proper purposes, activities, and with the efficiency and transparency.

n  Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment to maximize project impact and effectiveness.

n  Stay abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in public health emergency preparedness and response.

n  Organize training and workshop as planned.

n  Liaison between the technical, administrative team and the various research directorates

n  Organize regular team meetings to review and plan project activities and document best practice.

n  Develop systems to track supplies and equipment by creating datasets and standard queries that can also be used for emergency preparedness purposes

n  Overseas operations projects for procurement related matters including development of proper administrative tools

n  Develop standardized reports and queries to track supplies for use throughout the project period including use of appropriate procurement and inventory tools

n  Responsible for developing and monitoring progress and barriers to achieve administrative priorities and develop solutions to overcome those barriers

n  Organizing, attending, and participating in stakeholder meetings and take minutes during meetings

n  Documenting and following up on important actions and decisions from meetings/ workshops

n  Ensuring the project adherence to frameworks and all documentation is maintained

n   Provide all necessary arrangements and coordination support for the project team. This includes handling travel arrangements, hotel reservations, logistics, etc.

Job Requirements

.

Requirement

n  Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field of study.

n  Experience in project coordination, Health system Capacity building, public health program management  six /6/ years’ experience out of which six/four years of coordination role

n  Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate complex data effectively.

n  Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

n  Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

n  Excellent Project Management skill

n  Proven track record of working effectively in multidisciplinary teams and building strong relationships with stakeholders.

n  Proven experience in designing and implementing research related training, mentoring for a variety of stakeholders.

n  Knowledge of global health security, infectious disease control, and emergency response protocols.

n  Excellent written and verbal communication skills both in English and Amharic.

n  Demonstrated commitment to public health and improving healthcare systems in Ethiopia.

n  Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

n  Ability to work with research institutes, academia, and the health sector, with local and international collaborators.

n  Ability to work proactively, organize and manage own work,

n  Other duties, as assigned by the PI

Positions available: 1 (one)

Duty station: Addis Ababa

Salary: as per the organization scale

Terms of employment: One year contract period with full time employment basis and possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability
