About us
Haile-Manas Academy (HMA) is a purpose built, newly constructed, co-educational, Grade 9-12 boarding school for students of exceptional promise recruited from across Ethiopia. The Academy is located in Debre Birhan, Ethiopia.

Position summary
Haile-Manas Academy requires Boarding School Dormitory Support Staff to serve as Dorm Parents to assist with the care, supervision and support of HMA Students. This position is open to male and female applicants and requires living on the Haile-Manas Academy campus.
Working as part of a team that involves the Community Life Manager, Faculty and Administration, Dorm Staff are responsible for the day-to-day care of students. It is important that Dorm Staff are able to build trusting, courteous, professional and respectful relationships with HMA students and staff. Dorm Staff must be viewed as fair, firm, kind and dependable.
Specific Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model for students
- Be available in dormitories and on the school campus during the hours of 3:30 pm to 11:00 pm and 6:00 am to 8:00 am, the following day, supporting and supervising students. Dorm parents are provided with accommodations in the dormitories. Shift hours include weekdays and every second weekend.
- Be available overnight in the event of any student emergency.
- Ensure all main dormitory gates/doors are locked and unlocked at the scheduled times
- Notify Wellness Center Staff or other appropriate staff regarding student health/emotional needs
- Play a leadership role in maintaining positive, respectful and harmonious relationships amongst students.
- Provide daily duty shift report to the Community Life Manager
- Dispense student school supplies, dormitory supplies and hygiene supplies
- Ensure accurate records are kept of all dormitory supplies and hygiene supplies given to students
- Notify appropriate personnel when dormitory and hygiene supplies need to be purchased
- Supervise hygiene practices and cleanliness
- Supervise dormitory cleanliness and tidiness, including dormitory rooms, common rooms, toilet and shower areas, courtyard and laundry area
- Supervise laundry room, ensuring students follow the laundry/clothes washing schedule
- Monitor standards achieved by dormitory cleaners and report any concerns
- Report repairs required in the dormitory maintenance log
- Maintain close liaison with the Wellness Center staff at all times concerning students’ health and medical needs
- Ensure proper student sign out and sign in procedures are maintained
- Record student attendance during dinner, evening study and at bed time
- Ensure students are attending required tutorials/evening study sessions
- Accompany students on any off campus outings, when required
- Assist in coordinating students’ arriving and leaving during holidays
- Play a leading role in planning special evening and weekend activities to engage students
- Support, promote and implement all school and dormitory policies and protocols
- Maintain detailed student records with particular attention to the confidentiality, privacy and sensitivity of issues

Requirements
- University Degree, with a preference for a degree in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Health Sciences
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels with students, staff and parents
- Professional, flexible, conscientious, and able to act with discretion at all times
- Able to work upon your own initiative in a calm and patient manner
- High level of organizational skills, detail oriented
- Able to demonstrate a genuine, warmth and interest in the students in your care
- Past experience working with high school aged students
- Working knowledge of Google Suite including forms, docs, sheets and email
- Fluency in Amharic, spoken and written
- At minimum, basic English, spoken and written, with intermediate spoken and written English skills preferred.
