Amref Health Africa is an African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. With a focus on women and children, the organization strives to overcome the most critical health challenges facing the continent: maternal and child health, HIV & TB, malaria, water and sanitation and health systems strengthening. Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia since 2002 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing a range of projects in maternal, neonatal and child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, health workforce development, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases across the country, supported by a wide range of multilateral and bilateral donors, corporates and foundations.

Amref is currently Implementing the Power to You(th) Consortium will empower AGYW, address gender inequalities, challenge gender norms and advocate for inclusive decision-making. Our attention will focus on harmful practices, such as Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and child marriage, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and unintended pregnancies.

The Power to Youth envisions more adolescent girls and young women from underserved communities being meaningfully included in all decision-making regarding harmful practices, SGBV and unintended pregnancies.

Amref Health Africa would like to recruit 1 Project Assistant based in Bahir dar, Amhara region and will report to the Project Manager.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Project Assistant under the supervision of the project manager will be responsible for providing management and technical assistance in day to day implementation of the Power to Youth project. He/She will be primarily responsible for ensuring the achievement of specific project deliverables and targets in the project. The Assistant is expected to carry out routine activity planning and implementation of field-level activities; coordinate and monitor/supervise the timely implementation of project activities and the budget utilization under his/her custody. He/She will be responsible for organizing and facilitating training, conducting regular site visits, and providing technical assistance. He/she will ensure the implementation of youth empowerment, advocacy and SRH information and service for youth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide overall assistance in the development of detailed periodic plans and budgets.
  • Assist service delivery sites in meeting quality standards by providing training, training follow-up visits, clear performance feedback and technical support as needed, particularly in Health System Strengthening
  • Collaborate with the regional team, technical and program teams to improve community health-seeking behavior on WASH, Nutrition, and Maternal, Child health, GBV services
  • Monitor the activity of the project-supported sites and provide necessary guidance and technical assistance
  • Ensure the proper implementation of project activities and monitor progress regularly with periodic supervision and review meetings in coordination with project implementing partners.
  • Conduct regular site visits, in liaison with other partners, to monitor progress and quality to ensure high standards of services and effective use of all resources.
  • Identify with other technical staff and counterparts lessons learned and potential best practices, and participate in the documentation and dissemination of best practices.
  • Carry out other Amref Health Africa assignments as may be required and as directed by the project manager, and technical advisors at the country office.

Job Requirement

 

  • BSC in Public Health, Nursing or related field of studies
  • Age under 26 years
  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience which are directly related to youth SRH,
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language.
