Program Description
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) in collaboration with the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) and with the support of the World Health Organization is planning to undertake the Global Adult Tobacco Survey in Ethiopia, working towards the implementation of the WHO-Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). The purpose of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey is to systematically monitor adult tobacco use (smoking and smokeless) and track key tobacco control interventions. This survey will generate nationally representative data on adult tobacco use, main indicators of tobacco consumption, and key tobacco control measures that can be compared across countries.
Therefore, the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) would like to hire data collectors, team leaders, and regional coordinators for the second round Ethiopian Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS). The data collectors, team leaders, and regional coordinators fulfill the below qualifications on a contractual basis and will work with the Food Science and Nutrition Research Directorate of EPHI
In order to meet the objectives of this assignment, the data collector will undertake the following activities:
· Collect data from the field
· Work on different related activities as per the direction from the team leader and regional coordinator
· All data collectors are responsible for the delineation of the Enumeration Area, fresh household listing, and entire data collection.
· Review each questionnaire on the tablet prior to leaving the survey respondents’ house and make sure all questions are answered correctly.
Job Requirements
.
The data collector should fulfill the following criteria: –
· BSc degree or above in Health Science (Environmental Health, Nurse, and Health officer, etc) and
· Experience in survey household data collection using a Handheld device
Language:
Amharic, Afan Oromo (30 data collectors), and other local languages
Can read and understand the English language
Major duties and responsibilities:
· Must be able to complete questions using tablet computers at a reasonable speed;
· Collects data as per protocol, including following skip patterns, and asking questions as stated in the questionnaire;
· Locate selected households for an interview and complete the household and individual questionnaires for each household;
· Report all best practices and challenges to the team supervisor;
· Works under the supervision/guidance of the team supervisor and coordinator;
· Must be of good health as the fieldwork may demand extensive travel on rough roads;
· Must be able to organize the assignment and work independently of the team leader;
· Maintains good team spirit within the assigned team;
· Must be able and willing to stay in the field and work in any part of the country.
