Job Description

MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES

Implement Health Promotion/IEC (Information, Education, Communication) activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.

In close collaboration with the MHPSS Manager, integrating MHPSS topics and activities in the HP/IEC according to ALIMA values, standards and procedures in order to increase awareness of the targeted population on MHPSS.

  • In close collaboration with the MHPSS Manager, participating in the definition and update of the HP/IEC/MHPSS strategy and identifying indicators in order to monitor HP with integrated MHPSS activities, results, and achievements. Supporting the PMR organizing and carrying out assessments and research on the impact of HP activities and identifying and reporting the constraints, difficulties or strength points of the HP with integrated MHPSS strategy inside and outside the medical structures in order to reinforce the link between the communities and the project

  • Support community workers (HEW, CEW, NEH) to inform patients and communities about ALIMA and services it provides, and according to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics (SRH, Nutrition, IYCF-E, Hygiene, Communicable diseases, …)

  • Implement activities of health education and awareness (sessions in schools, churches, community), under the indications and supervision of the PMR.

  • Train HEW, CEW and NEH on Family MUAC approach and assure its scaling-up in the communities

  • Under the guide of PMR, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviors observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her.

  • Collect all types of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.

  • Providing support in selecting and developing quality pedagogical communication strategies towards the community. Planning information campaigns, including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase awareness among the targeted population.

  • Organizing along with HEW, CEW and NEH health awareness sessions for ALIMA’s medical and non-medical staff

  • Identifying key actors (local authorities, local NGOs, traditional healers, formal or informal authorities) and being the focal point for the networking in order to support the dissemination and collection of health information of the target population, and be the point of reference for the relation and networking with these subjects.

  • Together with community workers (HEW, CEW, NHE, …) conduct home visits to follow-up beneficiaries when needed

  • Develop culturally, age and gender appropriate psychosocial activities for communities

  • After being trained on MHPSS:

    •  Provide consultation and appropriate case management for beneficiaries with psychosocial problems and mental illness.

    • Organize awareness raising and sensitization event, workshop, campaign on mental health topics for communities targeting various age groups

    • Organize and conduct PFA training for volunteers, community leaders and representatives

  • Supervising and collection of the monthly and weekly data. Organize, review, analyze and submit the data.

  • Ensure outbreak and community health surveillance, and support ongoing training for the team to detect and assess, with support from line manager. According to context needs, implement and follow up active case finding and defaulter tracing.

  • Collecting and reporting to the medical team any information linked to the health situation of the population and the patient.

Job Requirements

Training/Education:

Diploma in Social Work /Development Work, Communication/ Public Relations , Public Health Nurse or related field.

Experiences:

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in awareness and behavior change/ Communication campaigns, IEC, designing communication strategies, materials development, and Community Mobilization activities preferably in Health setup .

  • Experience in INGO and humanitarian context

  • Experience following IASC Guidelines on MHPSS in Emergencies and international best practices on the integration of MHPSS into primary health care settings is an asset;

  • Proven training facilitation experience and skills,

Skills:

  • Demonstrated skills in program planning, implementation and monitoring.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking ability

  • Collaborative attitude with colleagues, work team and external partners

  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of people from different cultural backgrounds

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Flexible with ability to cope with stressful situations and challenging conditions with limited resources.

  • Ability to work independently and quickly take up a position

  • Analytical skills and critical thinking

  • Sense of organization and rigor

  • Ability to adapt, diplomacy and patience

  • Strong listening skills

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Ability to live and work in localities often far from capitals, located in rural areas and often poorly covered in terms of security, medical, social and leisure.

Languages:

  • English Speaking, reading and writing, mandatory.

  • Knowledge of a local language (Somali and Oromo) is an asset
