Background
  • The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) is an independent not-for-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. For over 30 years, IHI has used improvement science to advance and sustain better outcomes in health and health systems across the world. IHI brings awareness of safety and quality to millions, catalyzes learning and the systematic improvement of care, develops solutions to previously intractable challenges, and mobilizes health systems, communities, regions, and nations to reduce harm and deaths. IHI collaborates with a growing community to spark bold, inventive ways to improve the health of individuals and populations. IHI generates optimism, harvests fresh ideas, and supports anyone, anywhere who wants to profoundly change health and health care for the better. Learn more at www.ihi.org. In Ethiopia, IHI is registered at the F.D.R.E Authority for Civil Societies Organization with Certificate number 3594 and closely working with the Ministry of Health since 2013 to drive the quality agenda of the country through support development and implementation of national quality strategy, capability building for improvement and demonstrating scalable approaches to improve quality of MNH care and other health services.
  • USAID Quality Healthcare Activity (QHA) aims at improving health outcomes through improved readiness of health facilities to deliver quality reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) services, increased management and accountability for quality service delivery, and restoration of services in health facilities in conflict-affected areas. QHA’s strategies and implementation approaches will help the government of Ethiopia build public and private health care systems that are responsive, resilient, and sustainable. QHA will cover urban and peri-urban primary health care units (PHCU) and referral health facilities in select regions and woredas. The Activity, through funding support from USAID, will be implemented by the prime John Snow Inc. (JSI) where IHI and other partners engage as a sub award.
Position Summary
  • Under the supervision of the IHI and JSI designated supervisor, the position holder will provide technical assistance along with supporting the QHA team in project execution. The responsibility will involve supporting health facilities and project teams in designing, testing and implementing focused quality improvement projects. The QI Specialist will provide technical support on quality improvement to project staff, provide quality improvement coaching and mentorship to health facilities across project sites, document and share lessons learned from implementation, facilitate the adoption of quality management processes and strengthen quality structures across project facilities.
