JDC began working in Ethiopia in 1983, striving to advance the health and wellbeing of those living in the Gondar region.

JDC is looking for experienced and energetic Program professional and would like to invite qualified and interested persons to apply for the post.

About the Project

Tena Program will aid the community in Gondar City by building the capacity of local health systems, addressing severe nutrition deficits among children, ensuring healthcare coverage for families, and implementing health education campaigns on key topics such as sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child health, and women’s health.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • The primary function of this role is the implementation and day-to-day management of the Tena program activities. In meeting this responsibility, the Project officer is also accountable for the monitoring of the project’s health inputs and outputs, and ensuring targets are achieved.
  • Contributes to the planning, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of Tena Project activities.
  • Record all equipment on behalf of JDC, and ensure proper tracking of other related equipment managed by the partners (medical equipment, donated in kind materials, etc.)
  • Ensure basic medical equipment and treatment protocols are available in each supported health facility.
  • Ensure availability of required data collection tools at health facility level.
  • Conduct regularly cross check for reports and registration books to ensure alignment of data at all levels.
  • Ensure availability of medical supplies at facility level including drugs, consumables, vaccines and lab reagents.
  • Keep communication with community leaders and beneficiaries to get their feedback on service delivery.
  • Participation in emergency responses and organize campaigns for selected communities.
  • Organize training and awareness activities and make sure they are conducted according to quality benchmarks.
  • Attending the cluster meeting and reporting to his supervisor.
  • Coordinate with Nutrition and WASH government professionals.
  • Document and share success stories.
  • Undertake activities urgently assigned by immediate supervisor, Country Director, and Tena team from Israel.
  • Comply with JDC policies, rules, and regulations.

Partners

  • Engage and work closely with government, NGOs and private partners and keep relationships smooth,
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with, IP, MoH, locality and health staff.

Financials and reporting

  • Communicate and report on a regular basis to the team members through email and other platforms.
  • Develop weekly, bi-annually, and annually financial as well as activity reports and submit to immediate supervisor in addition to key government stakeholders.

Report to:  Deputy Country Director

Salary:       20,000 Birr/month

Duty Station: Gondar City

Employment Duration: One year with possible extension

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Experiences

  • Health Professional with BA degree and a minimum 5 years of experience working in related fields willing to work in rural settings under hardship conditions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health sector in Ethiopia and have experience in working in the Gondar area.
  • Strong ability to manage and deal with diverse stakeholders.
  • Should have experience in design and implementation of health programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both in English and Amharic (oral or written). Experience in leading and supporting HEWs & HDAs.
  • Well organized, analytical, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge.
  • Excellent IT skills, MS Office applications
