Introduction
ABOUT THE TRAINING
The College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) in Partnership with Smile Train and the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) have developed a Post-Fellowship Curriculum in Cleft Care with an aim of Improving the skills of surgeons in the comprehensive management of Cleft Lip and Palate and associated problems.
A nine (9) month long course at an accredited training site with the objective of: –
▪ Improving knowledge & understanding of the embryologic & anatomic basis of cleft lip & palate surgery.
▪ Strengthening the impact & understanding of multidisciplinary team care for cleft lip & palate.
▪ Providing hands on surgical training in primary & secondary repair of cleft lip & palate, as well as alveolar
bone graft.
▪ Developing & advancing research in cleft lip & palate & provide a regional research platform.

Eligibility Criteria
• Must have a recognized medical or dental degree.
• Must be a COSECSA Fellow or have a fellowship in any of the following surgical specialties (or acceptable
equivalent):
◼ Dental Surgery (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery)
◼ General Surgery
◼ Otorhinolaryngology
◼ Paediatric Surgery
◼ Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
• To facilitate training, the candidate should possess a current registration/ practicing license from the host country Medical & Dental Council.

Maximum of two per training institution for each batch at
a COSECSA Plastic Surgery Accredited Training Site. Submit a CV, Reference letter, Personal statement and
an acceptance letter from a COSECSA Plastic Surgery accredited training site.
