In Ethiopia, WFP provides food assistance to over nine million food-insecure people affected by conflict, droughts, flooding, or displacement. As part of the humanitarian response plan (HRP), WFP provides relief food assistance in four regions: Somali, Tigray, Amhara and Afar regions.

BACKGROUND & PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

These positions will perform monitoring activities within a specific coverage area, support the relief response activities and provide reports to support the effective delivery of assistance packages in Somali region. Specifically, he/she will  (1) support effective implementation of general food and cash response, facilitate implementation of activities in the field; (2) follow up the seasonal food security and emergency need assessments in response locations to inform programming and (3) follow up various queries in the field.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the general supervision and guidance of the Area Office/ Sub Office Programme officers/Programme assistants, the successful candidates will:

  1. Verify the planned movements and distribution of food or non-food items, reporting issues or discrepancies to the supervisor for timely resolution of problems and to ensure that the quantity distributed, and the quality of the operation is in line with WFP standards.
  2. Maintain information records and monitoring plan documentation, such as records of commodity movements and Programme checklists, in order to assist in the effective delivery and distribution of food items or non-food items.
  3. Collate assistance Programme(s) data in accordance with clear direction, in order to support Programme reviews and informative decision-making.
  4. Liaise with cooperating partners and internal counterparts to gather feedback and comments to support Programme reviews and improve services.
  5. Receive and collect comments and feedback from cooperating partners, beneficiaries, and beneficiaries, to support identifying programmatic issues with a view  to  fostering  efficient operations.
  6. Provide guidance for cooperating partners on WFP operational practices, monitoring tools and methods in order to support them to complete self-monitoring tasks and to contribute to the visibility of WFP in the coverage areas.
  7. Prepare field mission reports to document Programme implementation.
  8. Follow set emergency response processes and procedures for emergency food assistance.
  9. Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in nutrition, public health or related functional area is desirable.

Experience: Four or more years of progressively responsible work experience in areas of Food Security, Nutrition, and other related field. Knowledge and experience working in Somali Region would be an asset.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written English and other Ethiopian regional languages is a must.

Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Has experience analysing programme output and outcome data.
  • Ability to identify data discrepancies and rectify problems requiring attention.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and computer software packages, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of WFP monitoring and evaluation systems and standards is an added advantage.
