Position Location: Addis Ababa

Reports to:  IPC/WASH_RCCE Section chief

Contract term: Full time position, 6-month with possible extension

Salary: – Based on MOFEC scale

Amount required – 1

Assignment area- Addis Ababa with frequent travel to field visit

I. Description of duties

Under the supervision of the IPC/WASH_RCCE Section chief, the Incident manager, and in close coordination with the program sections of EPHI, the incumbent will support EPHI’s emergency response capabilities, primarily through the development and implementation of robust infection prevention and control (IPC) measures. While IPC remains the core focus, the TA will also support comprehensive case management and community engagement efforts and WASH activities to effectively confront and reduce the impact of public health emergencies, including COVID-19, cholera, measles, and other potential threats.

Working under the oversight of the Incident Manager and the direct supervision of the IPC/WASH_RCCE Section chief, the TA will perform the following tasks:

– Provide technical support and guidance to the national public health emergency management operation center on IPC interventions in emergency settings.

– Participate in emergency preparedness plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate IPC activities in collaboration with the national PHEOC IPC/WASH_RCCE section, RHBs, and implementing partners.

– Conduct IPC assessments, gap analysis, and risk mapping to identify priority areas and target populations for IPC interventions.

– Design, supervise, and coordinate the rehabilitation of sanitation facilities, and waste management systems in health facilities and communities affected by emergencies.

– Ensure the quality and safety of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene services in accordance with national and international standards and guidelines.

– Organize and facilitate IPC trainings, workshops, and orientations for health workers, community volunteers, and other relevant actors.

– Promote and implement hygiene promotion and behavior change communication strategies using culturally appropriate and participatory methods and tools.

– Distribute and monitor the use of IPC supplies and equipment,

– Prepare and submit regular and timely IPC reports, data, and feedback to the national PHEOC IPC/WASH_RCCE section

– Document and share IPC best practices, lessons learned, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.

 

– Perform additional tasks as assigned by the National PHEOC IPC/WASH_RCCE section chief, including activities related to IPC/WASH

Job Requirements

.

– BSc in Nursing, Public Health, MD or Environmental Health, and at least eight years of work experience; OR

– BSc in Nursing, Public Health, MD or Environmental Health with MPH/MSc in Environmental Health and at least six years of work experience.

– Experience in leading and coordinating emergency IPC or IPC-WASH response programs.

– Relevant knowledge and experience in capacity building (such as facilitation skills, training, supportive supervision, mentoring, coaching).

– Training/certification in basic IPC or IPC_WASH trainings by a recognized organization.

– Experience in development of IPC related national documents is preferable

-Working experience with emergency operation center at national and/or regional level is preferable

– Knowledge of the Ethiopian health system

Required skills

– Excellent problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills, including great attention to detail.

– Proficiency with of word processing tools and spreadsheets (MS Office Word, Excel etc.)

-Team-oriented with strong commitment to excellence and strong communication skills

-Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

– Ability to learn on the job quickly and be flexible
