JOB SUMMARY
Environmental Health Officer could be under the direct supervision of Team leader responsible to support the implementation of hygiene and sanitation promotion and water supply activities by using appropriate hygiene promotion approaches, with required standard principles, and level of participation in Cholera outbreak response intervention.The position holder is also responsible for Client’s selection & verification, community mobilization, proper management of resources under the project.
JOB RESPONSIBITIES
1. Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
Assist in Ensuring MTI’s standard of quality in implementation of cholera outbreak response is met.
Actively work on risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) in cholera outbreak response and prevention.
Participate in different phases of project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation on water, sanitation & hygiene promotion, and cholera outbreak prevention and response related activities.
Select and conduct capacity training for HWs, Community health workers, woreda level RRT, in outbreak affected weeds, with in the intervention area.
Participate in woreda level EOC meeting and update the overall partnership coordination and feedback to team leader.
Coordinate and facilitate interactive and participatory hygiene promotion activities for Social behavioural change communication process.
Provide professional and required support for Environmental Health Agents, School hygiene Clubs, Sanitation facility attendants for effective cholera outbreak prevention and response within the intervention area.
Coordinate and facilitates regional Health/WASH related campaign with Partners and refugee structures.
Facilitate feasible activity, procurement, and spending plan for Cholera outbreak response activities. (Plan & initiate procurement to program activities required for Cholera outbreak response and prevention) within in the grant period.
Actively participate and conduct different Health and WASH related need assessment.
Liaison with the local government and implementing partners in preparation of action plan for implementation of effective hygiene and sanitation promotion activities.
Take part in designing and production of appropriate WASH IEC/BCC materials for effective use.
Keep all Health/WASH data, records, lessons and share accordingly.
Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to technical and immediate mangers.
Ensures compliance to program standards at all levels and reports any issues of concern to the line manager.
Build effective partnership relationships with stakeholders including community leaders, health facility staff and beneficiaries, including actively seeking feedback.
Participates in local coordination mechanisms including, Health/WASH working groups, and EOC meeting as appropriate.
2. Quality Management
Aiming to achieve the highest quality programming possible within the challenging context of Dire dawa, Ethiopia.
Ensure Cholera outbreak response based on the 5 pillars recommendations to control and prevent the outbreak.
Ensure IEC/BCC materials are culturally tailored and distributed appropriately.
Provide respectful service, ensuring that dignity and confidentiality are maintained within MTI’s services.
Support other staff and colleagues to maintain good infection control practices to prevent spread of illnesses within health facilities and among the staff.
3. Additional activities
Support other areas of the office as requested or needed to ensure efficiency and quality of work for all.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment, disposing of waste appropriately.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
This position requires frequent travel to health facilities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions.

Job Requirements
EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTFICATION
University Post degree, BSc degree graduate in Environmental Health Science, Public Health, Nurse, Health Education, or any other related field from recognized University.
EXPERIENCE
At least 2 years’ experience working in Environmental health or health and WASH related tasks and 2 years’ experience managing operation of WASH in health services, including staff supervision.
