Job Description

.

Team and Team International is an International non- governmental organization. Team and Team International is established more than 25 years and currently working in Ethiopia in WASH sector.

Team and Team International practice unconditional love disregarding differences in political values, tribes, religions and nationalities through water development, sanitation & hygiene education, and Humanitarian aid.

Roles and Responsibilities

Overall

  • Ensure the Hygiene and Sanitation Component of the project is implemented according to the approved donor and government agreements.
  • Responsible for weekly, Monthly, and quarterly action plans of project activities related to Hygiene and Sanitation, including checklist for assessments, monitoring, review, and evaluation of project activities.
  • Support in planning, facilitating, and implementing Community Led Total Sanitation project (CLTS) in Edeneba Kebele, Mitto Woreda, Central Ethiopia Region,
  • Organize Hygiene and sanitation training and workshops for household, Health workers Water user committee and head men.
  • Design and build model household toilet and train Household’s to build their own with tippy tap.
  • Work to achieve behavior change mainly in Edeneba Kebele Mitto woreda by “triggering”, leading to spontaneous and long-term abandonment of open defecation practices.
  • Conduct monitoring the impact of hygiene promotion activities, CLTS in changing community hygiene and sanitation behavior change.
  • Prepare village specific CLTS triggering report (highlighting village baseline status, OD Maps, the trigger moment, trigger type registered, record of tools used, attendance by gender etc.)
  • Develop work plans for hygiene promotion activities in the communities using the CLTS approach.
  • Work closely with the Operations and Program Manager to develop effective community engagement strategies and implement them with community-leaders, health staffs to promote community ownership in WASH related service delivery.
  • Responsible for timely (weekly and Monthly) Hygiene and Sanitation activity reporting.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and inspection of household toilet constructions.
  • Engage community leaders (Kebele chairman, Kebele Manager, and headman) and provide technical and H&S educational support.
  • Work as hygiene promotion teams to facilitate appropriate community involvement in collaboration with Community Engagement.
  • Mobilize the community to participate in environmental campaign activities and encourage all groups to participate in the project.
  • Facilitate training and promotional activities towards improving the Personal and Environmental Hygiene and Sanitation practices of communities.
  • Analyses and evaluates data to ensure achievement of objectives and/or takes corrective action where necessary to meet project objectives.
  • Provides regular reports to Project manager, Operations manager including brief weekly Activity Reports detailing activities undertaken and results achieved, and with a brief work plan for the subsequent weeks & month including field monitoring.
  • Managing the implementation strategy of the Hygiene and Sanitation projects.
  • Support the training of CLTS and H&S TOT’s and capacity build them in the implementation of CLTS mobilization and H&S.
  • Support the project to build up and maintain trustworthy relationships with the community, partners, and the direct and indirect beneficiaries.
  • Collect village demographic data.

Reporting to – Program manager

Number of Positions – Two

Salary- As per the organizational scale

Duration of Contract – Two years with possibility of extension

Duty Station – Central Ethiopia Region Silitie Zone Mitto Woreda.

Job Requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Degree/ Diploma in WASH related studies (public health, Clinical nurse, water and sanitation and environmental health) or related field of study.
  • Strong community mobilization skills and experience of working in a rural setting.
  • Excellent management and personnel skills to enable the motivation, encouragement, and participation of community members.
  • Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with Government in Central Ethiopia.
  • Excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English and experience in report writing.

Essential

  • At least 5 years relevant project management experiences in Hygiene and Sanitation and CLTS related projects in NGOs or similar organizations.
  • Understanding and experience in project implementation techniques, participatory planning, implementation and monitoring basic practices.
  • Proven skills on managing changes, achieving results, ensuring quality, team building and capacity building.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity, assertiveness and negotiating skills.
  • Ability and willingness to reside in Mitto area and work under pressure as part of a professional team.

Required Competencies:

  • High degree of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Previous experience within a humanitarian aid organization is an added advantage.
  • Consistent and fair in the treatment of people.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.

Essential

  • Computer literate in word processing, excel packages and internet use
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and silitigna language is essential.
  • Ability to communicate in English through verbal and written communication.
  • Good level of physical health and fitness
  • Previous community mobilizing experience
  • Ability to understand and communicate in Silitigna language is mandatory

Contract Duration – This vacant position is budgeted for 2 years and is subject to renewal depending on performance and funding.
