Job Description

  • Our intervention in Ethiopia focuses on Climate Resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene; Gender-Based Violence; Peacebuilding; Faith-Based Climate Action; Humanitarian Emergency Response. We are currently operating in eight regions: Amhara, Gambella, Oromia, Somali, Southern Nations Nationalities and People’s State, Sidama, Tigray, and at the Federal level. Job Summary:
  • The Project Coordinator position at Bahir Dar is a new role under the Humanitarian program intended to provide technical support and actively participate in the regional cluster meetings representing NCA. The position holder will participate in joint monitoring and rapid assessments at the regional level and follow up on NCA projects’ progress in the region and provide broad support to the development, implementation, monitoring, and follow-up of NCA’s humanitarian response program supported by the Nansen funds. The program management including the design, monitoring, reporting and evaluation, and financial and material management will be managed by the Coordinator in consultation with the line manager. S/he will also be responsible to assist Senior Advisors at the CO, as required. In addition, s/he is responsible for stakeholder management, regular attendance of regional coordination platforms, and ensuring the delivery of projects in line with the sphere and CHS standards.
  • The project has a newly secured grant from MFA SPA Nansen and MFA SPA for the implementation of multisector projects in the North Shewa Zone, Northern Wollo Zone, and Waghemra Zone of Amhara regional state.
  • The position requires a highly qualified and experienced individual with strong personal integrity and commitment to implement projects in line with CHS standards and donor requirements and government regulations. Prior experience in the INGOs platform and emergency sites including people management is mandatory. The person to be employed need to accept the Code of Conduct of ACT Alliance.


Key areas of responsibility:
Regional Cluster Involvement
  • Actively involve regional cluster coordination meetings, provide updates about the program progress for each cluster in the Amhara  region
  • Provide updates to the country office about the regional humanitarian situations of the region.
  • Participate in joint regional cluster monitoring and learning. The humanitarian program coordinator also will communicate with the regional government office representing NCA
  • Facilitate government agreements at regional as well as zonal offices.
  • He/she is also responsible to monitor and assess implementation progress, identify barriers and constraints, and work collaboratively with partners and NCA teams to devise solutions.
Project Management
  • Provide broad support to the development, implementation, monitoring, and follow-up of NCA’s humanitarian program and development projects in the Amhara region implemented by NCA as well as projects which are implemented through our local partner.
  • He/she will provide technical support to NCA’s implementing partners, monitor and follow up on the overall performance of humanitarian programs in the region and share the field monitoring reports.
  • He/she will provide support for effective project implementation and advice partners for better and quality service delivery, involve in the rapid assessment, provide training to staff, proposal development, project monitoring and report writing for humanitarian programs, and contribute to preparing head office as well as donors reports under their requirement.
  • Building strong and collaborative relationships with government partners, NCA’s core and resource partners, and thematic teams, provide oversight, direction, and ensure coordination of partner programs to implement annual work plans and deliver high-impact results.
  • Update the country office about the Amhara region’s humanitarian situation.
  • Facilitate the project agreements with the regional government office and the joint monitoring and final evaluation of NCA.s project’s
  • Monitor the projects and analyses project sites, and monitors compliance with Donor and NCA policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Support the cooperatives in contract negotiation with third parties, contract preparation and review, finance management, and documentation.
  • Supervises projects and supports activities that drive team performance toward project goals.
  • Organize, facilitate, and lead a joint team of stakeholders to continue regular monitoring and evaluation.
  • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality and timeliness, and ensures quality control.
  • Ensure good coordination with Project implementation stakeholders including but not limited to UNCHR, ARRA, and relevant regional Zonal and woreda respective offices.
  • Advocate for the project impact and importance in different platforms (WASH, Nutrition, Health, agriculture, education, Camp management, Shelter NFI, Protection, Cash working group) at regional level existing platforms i.e. Mass media, mini media, coordination meetings, conferences, etc.

Duty Station: Bahir Dar of Amhara regional state, with frequent field travel to project sites

Job Requirements


Minimum Requirements:
  • MSc or above in project management, public health, medicine, international health, management, or social sciences fields. The coordinator needs to have strong skills in capacity building and providing mentorship to like-minded organizations and demonstrated experience in developing donor relationships, able to work with/guiding regional-level technical working groups, and working with government partners, and other agencies.
