Job Description

 

Introduction

MERQ Consultancy PLC is a private consulting firm specializing in research and program evaluation. It was established with a vision of becoming a center of excellence for M&E, evidence generation and use, capacity building, and quality improvement for health and other social issues. MERQ’s engagement in the health sector largely involves collaborations with the Ministry of Health (MoH), Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs), development partners, and other stakeholders for the design, conducting, and reporting of large-scale national studies.

Job Description:

MERQ in collaboration with Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is currently planning to conduct a Woreda-level deep dive assessment on primary health care (PHC). The assessment involves compiling a comprehensive health profile of study woredas through review and compilation of secondary data, woreda level assessment of health and social determinants of health, health facility assessments, and qualitative data collection. Therefore, we would like to hire qualified and motivated candidates who will work as a member of the Woreda assessment teams with the capacity of “PHC assessor”.

Major duties and responsibilities of the PHC Assessors include:

  • Participate in the training of assessment teams and pretesting of data collection instruments.
  • Review the protocol, understand the purpose of the data collection, and internalize assessment tools and procedures.
  • Conduct health facility assessments at health post and health center levels
  • Participate in the collection of qualitative data at health center and health post levels.
  • Work with the assessment team leads in the facilitation of Woreda self-assessment workshops.
  • Attend daily debriefs with assessment team leads and supervisors during fieldwork.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of study participants, conducting each interview in a location where participants feel comfortable, so they give candid responses.
  • Take notes from overall observation during the assessment and report to supervisor.
  • Report challenges faced during data collection to the field supervisor immediately and provide input in the preparation of field report.
  • Submit assessment data electronically on a daily basis and at the end of data collection.
  • Be responsible for electronic equipment provided for field work until they are returned to MERQ.

Total Required Number: 30

Duration of Contract: 3-4 weeks

Data collection site: In selected woreda’s of regions

Payment:  Daily bases as per the organization’s scale

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of first degree as a medical doctor, Health Officer or Nurse)
  • Having an MSc/MPH is advantageous.
  • Must have work experience as a health service provider.
  • Having practical experiences in electronic data collection including use of mobile/tablet applications is an asset.
  • Previous experience in conducting health facility assessments is advantageous.
